untitled (soles ó portales para invocar y evocar)
2020, installation, dimensions approx. 80” x 80” x 14″, presented at Éje Textil, Museo del Reciclaje, Hatillo, Puerto Rico
Sol lace weaving with organic hemp yarn, plastic deadstock yarn, pasteles-making yarn and handspun recycled fabric yarn; native Sage bundle, Mugwort bundle, wrapped anamú, amaranth, wild daisy, and higuereta, collected and gifted stones, glass jars, feathers, a sea rock pendulum, and gold thread.
These two pieces are related (primarily) to the following concepts/ideas/explorations:
invoking—calling forth energies, the use of the five-finger mudra (forming a point or triangle) which represents the union of the elements that are the expression of vital energy (space/air/fire/water/earth), opening a portal for the healing energies of the cosmos.
evoking—awakening the inherent life force that all living things already possess (humans, insects, trees, stones, water, etc.), allowing it to emerge, activate, and strengthen.
web of life — the idea that the entire universe is a vast network of energies that expand infinitely in all directions, that everything is a reflection of everything else, microcosm/macrocosm, that everything is intimately interconnected/interrelated, that as above, so below.
The elements present are some of my companions in work/life practice—stones, plants, weaving—so that the thread, the weaving of the net, makes a little more visible what is often invisible to us; visualizing it in this way (in a ‘tangible’ form) perhaps facilitates that connection with our perceptions, and by becoming more sensitive we can be aware of much more.
Both parts were woven using the materials mentioned above, using the principles of the Sol Lace weaving technique as a starting point.

tejido de sol con hilo de cáñamo orgánico, hilo ‘deadstock’ de plástico, hilo para hacer pasteles, y handspunrecycledfabricyarn (hilo torcido a mano a partir de descartes textiles); sahumerio de salvia común, sahumerio de artemisa, mazos de: anamú, bledo, margarita silvestre e higuereta, piedras regaladas/encontradas, frascos de cristal, plumas, péndulo de roca de mar e hilo dorado.
Estas dos piezas están relacionadas (principalmente) a los siguientes conceptos/ideas/exploraciones:
invocar— llamar energías, la utilización del mudra de 5 dedos unidos (haciendo una punta o triángulo) que representa la unión de los elementos que son la expresión de la fuerza energética vital (espacio/aire/fuego/agua/tierra), el abrir un portal para las energías sanadoras del cosmos.
evocar— el despertar la fuerza vital inherente que todxs lo vivxs tiene ya dentro (humanos, insectos, árboles, piedras, agua…etc..), que emerja, que se active, fortalecerla.
red de vida— la idea de que el universo entero es una vasta red de energías que se expanden al infinito en todas las direcciones, que todo es reflejo de todx, microcosmo/macrocosmo, que todx está íntimamente interconectado/inter-relacionado, que cómo es arriba es abajo.
Los elementos presentes son algunos de mis acompañantes de trabajo/práctica de vida— las piedras, las plantas, el tejido—que el hilo, el tejido de la red haga un poco más visible lo que nos es muchas veces invisible; visualizándolo así (en materia ‘tangible’) quizás nos facilita esa conexión con nuestras percepciones, y al sensibilizarnos podemos estar conscientes de mucho más.
Ambas partes fueron tejidas utilizando los materiales mencionados arriba, utilizando como punto de partida los principios de la técnica de Tejido de Soles.
