installation and activation ceremony
November 2, 2019 – HILO, El Cuadrado Gris, Santurce, PR
‘Sol’ woven from #handspunrecycledfabricyarn (handmade yarn from textile scraps), and ‘deadstock’ yarn from various natural fibers; stones (received as gifts and collected on nature walks), wild grasses, medicinal preparations based on ‘weeds’ (wild-daisy tincture, pickled verdolaga, alcoholado con malagueta y ruda) and kombucha.
The activation ceremony occurred on the opening evening of the exhibition. I smudged the people and the space, lit a candle, and prepared 4 ‘medicines’ (wild-daisy tincture, alcoholado, kombucha, and pickled verdolaga) each at a cardinal/energetic point. I left these ‘concoctions/potions’ to ferment/cure for the duration of the exhibition. Upon completion, everything would have been transformed, and we would have medicines to share.
